Motifs/Patterns: The saree features a stunning contrast of ivory body with a deep maroon (or burnt red-maroon) border and pallu. This classic combination is highly prized in Gadwal sarees and represents traditional South Indian weaving aesthetics. The contrast creates a regal, sophisticated appearance perfect for festive and ceremonial occasions. The ivory body is elegantly adorned with: 1. Golden zari butis (bootis) scattered across the fabric in a geometric pattern 2. Red resham (silk) butis interspersed with the gold ones, creating a beautiful two-tone buti work 3. The butis appear to be small, round motifs evenly distributed, maintaining the saree's lightweight and graceful drape 4. The sparse buti pattern allows the lustrous silk fabric to shine through The pallu is heavily embellished and serves as the saree's focal point: 1. Rich maroon base densely covered with golden zari work 2. Intricate diamond jaal pattern (mesh/net design) covering the entire pallu surface in gold 3. Repeating rows of traditional motifs and geometric bands 4. Paisley motifs in gold near the pallu's edge 5. Multiple horizontal bands featuring different traditional patterns 6. The heavy zari work creates a luxurious, opulent appearance with substantial weight 7. Tassels (kuchu) at the pallu end in matching maroon
Border Details: The border showcases the signature Gadwal craftsmanship: 1. Deep maroon base with intricate golden zari work 2. Temple border running along the length - this consists of repeated architectural motifs resembling temple spires or gopurams 3. Multiple bands of geometric patterns creating layers of design 4. A prominent row of golden paisley/mango motifs (kalga) arranged in a continuous line 5. Fine geometric jaal work and traditional borders with crisp definition 6. The temple border appears both at the main border edge and as a narrower band running throughout the length of the saree
Special Techniques: A running Gadwal is a handloom Gadwal saree in which the border runs continuously from one end of the saree to the other, seamlessly flowing through the body and into the pallu without any visual or structural break. The border is woven as part of the saree itself on the loom — not attached or stitched later. Weaving Process of a Running Gadwal (Step-by-Step) Warp Preparation Silk warp threads for the body and border are prepared together, not separately. Zari threads for the border are aligned simultaneously. Loom Setup The loom is set to handle multiple warps and wefts at once. Border, temple motifs, and body patterns are all planned before weaving begins. Simultaneous Weaving The body, border, temple design, and pallu are woven together. The weaver must constantly control: Border width Motif consistency Zari density Fabric tension Pallu Transition When reaching the pallu, motif density increases without cutting or rejoining. Border alignment must remain perfect even as patterns change. Why is a Running Gadwal More Time-Consuming? 1. No margin for error: A mistake anywhere affects the entire saree. 2. Slower weaving speed: Constant adjustments are required. 3. Higher skill dependency: Only highly experienced Gadwal weavers attempt it. 4. Longer loom occupation: One saree may occupy a loom for weeks. Why is a Running Gadwal More Expensive? 1. More silk and zari usage due to continuous weaving. 2. Higher labour cost because of skilled, time-intensive work. 3. No post-weaving stitching or correction — everything must be perfect on loom. 4. Lower production yield: Fewer sarees produced in the same time frame. Why Collectors Value Running Gadwals 1. Superior structural integrity 2. Cleaner aesthetics with no visible joints 3. Represents the highest level of Gadwal craftsmanship 4. Increasingly rare due to the skill and time required
Season: All seasons

Care Instructions: Only dry cleaning. Never steam iron. If ironing at home, place a cotton/mulmul cloth on top of the saree and use your iron at the lowest heat setting. Our skilled artisans use natural dyes for all our handloom collection and this will protect the intricate zari work, fabric and wont harm your precious handloom. Store in a cotton bag or a muslin cloth to protect against moisture.

Handloom sarees are entirely hand-woven on traditional looms by skilled artisans. Natural variations like minor thread ends, slight pattern variations, or subtle texture differences are authentic characteristics, not defects. These make each piece truly one-of-a-kind.
We photograph our sarees professionally to show accurate colors. However, slight variations may occur due to screen settings and lighting. The natural handloom process may also create subtle color variations, which add to its authenticity.
