The base is a soft ivory — a warm, creamy off-white — carrying big yellow circular bandhani motifs and fine white tie-dye work across the body. The pallu then switches into a bold fuchsia pink, packed with white bandhani and finished with broad golden zari and cute tassels. It's a striking, contemporary colour story, and the Gaji silk makes it feel as good as it looks: extremely lightweight, glossy, and satin-smooth in hand. The ivory keeps it calm and refined while the fuchsia and yellow bring the pop, so it reads both traditional and refreshingly new. Special Techniques: Gaji silk is a pure silk, traditionally woven from mulberry silk — the same fine, lustrous fibre used in most high-quality Indian silks — and made in a satin weave. In a satin weave, each silk thread floats over several others before tucking under just one; fewer crossover points means more unbroken silk lying flat on the surface, and that smooth, light-catching surface is what gives Gaji its signature glossy, satin-like feel.
The patterning is all bandhani — a tie-and-dye craft done entirely by hand. Skilled hands pinch thousands of tiny points of fabric and tie each one tightly with thread before dyeing. Where the fabric is tied, the dye can't reach, so when the threads are pulled out, those crisp white dots appear, clustering into the motifs and figurines you see. A multi-colour piece like this — ivory base, yellow circles, fuchsia pallu — is built through careful staged dyeing: areas are tied off and protected while one colour goes on, then re-tied and dyed again for the next, so each shade lands exactly where it should. Every dot is placed by hand.
That hand-tying is why bandhani takes real time and patience. Tying the thousands of points alone is slow, painstaking work, and each added colour means another full round of tying and dyeing. It's that careful handwork, repeated colour after colour, that makes a piece like this feel special.
