The body features a lustrous black katan silk base with an ikat pattern of fine diagonal lines running across the fabric. Over these ikat lines, delicate kantha stitch work has been woven in mustard thread, following and highlighting the linear ikat pattern. The kantha stitching creates a textured grid effect where the mustard thread traces over the woven lines, adding dimension and visual interest. This integrated kantha work is woven during the creation process itself, building up textured patterns against the black base while maintaining the lightweight, buttery-soft drape characteristic of fine katan silk.
The pallu transforms into a striking deep burned maroon showcase, creating dramatic contrast with the black body.
